Preparation time—5 minutes Cooking time—25 minutes
- Masoor dal [red lentil] 1 cup
- Cumin seeds ½ tsp
- Onion, chopped 1 medium
- Garlic, chopped 1tsp
- Dry Kashmiri chilies 2
- Turmeric powder ½ tsp
- Kashmiri red chili powder 1tsp
- Fennel [sanuf] powder 1tsp
- Dry ginger powder ½ tsp
- Kashmiri Garam masala ½ tsp
- Salt to taste
- Mustard oil 3tbsp
1-Clean and wash the dal, cook in pressure cooker in 3 cups of water along with little salt and turmeric powder for 3-4 whistles or till tender.
2-Heat oil in a pan till it smokes, remove from the fire, cool it a bit then put back on fire, crackles cumin seeds and dry chillies, stir in onions and garlic and sauté till light brown.
3-Add remaining ingredients, sauté it for a few seconds, add dal and cook for another couple of minutes[if dal is thick add some boiled water]and serve hot.
