[Masoor dal cooked with mutton in Persian style]
Preparation time—2 ½ hours Cooking time—40 minutes
- Masoor [whole] 1cup
- Mutton cut into small pieces 500gm
- Onion, chopped ½ cup
- Garlic 5cloves
- Ginger ½ inch piece
- Dry chilies 4
- Cumin seeds 1tsp
- Coriander seeds 2tsp
- Cardamoms 2
- Cloves 4
- Bay leaf 1
- Dhansaak masala 1tbsp
- Tamarind pulp 2tbsp
- Oil 4tbsp
- Salt to taste
1-Clean, wash and soak the dal for 2 hours. Grind together ginger, garlic, cumin seeds, coriander seeds and dry chilies to a smooth paste using little water and keep aside
2-Heat oil in a pan, crackles cardamoms, cloves and bayleaf, add onions and fry till brown.
3-Add ground masala and dhansaak masala, cook it till oil surfaces. Add mutton, salt and 1 cup of water and cook till mutton is half done.
4-Add dal and 4 cups of water, bring it to boil then simmer till dal and mutton are cooked.
5-Mix in tamarind pulp and serve hot.
